!!!!!!!!JOB LESS!!!!!!!!

My employment status is going to change today, from "I work" to "I used to work". It's the same kind of awkward answer that people in the US used to give me, on my asking, "Are you married?", "I used to be!".  At first, I couldn't digest that kind of replies; Being from a simple, conservative family of India, where divorces are a lifetime taboo, I never took marriage as a state of life that could come and go - and more often, what I found, it was on the "go" side in the West!

Coming back to discussing the change in my employment status, I have always had the fear that it would be difficult to go normal through this phase - "the jobless phase". I was afraid to take the step ahead and move on. Not because I had any financial concerns - I mean, of course, it's always good to have a good sum of money coming in every month, but I knew I could manage to go on without a running income for a considerable amount of time- but because I was too afraid to accept the tag "jobless" or "looking for a job with no job in hand". I was afraid that I would go into a frustration coma - a new type of coma which I came to learn about from everyone who heard I am leaving my job without having any alternative job offer.

From the day I had put my papers down, I have been hearing people ask me - "Where are you going next?" or "What are your plans?" or the worse, "Are you getting married?". My apologies to the people who have shown their true concerns for me, but I don't understand why leaving a job would only mean that you're going for a next job immediately or going to get married. "The getting married" was the most common and frequent question I was asked to. Why - probably because I am a girl, and generally the social mentality is that a girl should quit her career if she is getting married.

My answers have been simple, one liner - "Yes - I quit; No, I have no job offer; No, I am NOT looking for a job right away; No, I am NOT getting married"; and so on. I don't feel any symptoms of frustration coma, luckily, yet!

Are we like pet dogs who are too used to be having a tie around the neck, with command in the master's hands? Is imagining a life without a private IT job that horror a dream? How can we not want our own happiness the way we want it, instead accept the way others have defined it? I wonder are these too difficult or never-thought-before questions to be asked. All I know at this moment is -

The best thing about being jobless is that there is no fear of "Monday"! ;-)

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.

    2. Hey Elen, nice to see your comment here.

Well even I was afraid for a long time for being without guaranteed income. Money is definitely one thing I am missing on being jobless. But some sacrifices are worth making, in order to equip yourself for a better future.

    1. Thanks for writing in!

Well I agree that there is no joy for Friday anymore, but one must weigh which of the two gives more pleasure - having no fear of Monday or joy of Friday!! And whatever decision one takes, should be taken only on one's own desires, not by being motivated from others.

      More comments are welcome! :-)
